Why did you start your project?
I am a dog lover! Since childhood and when I came to Thailand for a holiday for the first time in 1990 it broke my heart witnessing the terrible fate and suffering of Thailand’s street dogs. I’ve travelled to Thailand every year after to help the strays ... 14 years later I’ve left Germany for good and ever since live in the land of smiles. In 2012 I gave my rescue efforts a name, to reach out and get others into the boat, help rescuing street dogs in Koh Chang! I am Martina and founder of Happy Dogs Koh Chang. Our main goal is to reduce the suffering by spay and neuter, vaccinations and homing! We run two sanctuaries with currently 52 dogs and care daily for around 200 strays here on the island, providing food, medical care and love.
How would you explain a normal day in your life? (inside the project)
Starting 6 am cooking special diet for the sick on 4 legs, first feeding / medication run at 8, short breakfast break and cuddles with my own 6 dogs at 9, next feeding run at 10 combined with catching strays and delivery to the vets for spay/neuter/vaccinations and treatments for illness, road accidents.. First afternoon feeding and treating run at 2 pm, after this visiting our 2 sanctuaries to check on our in-house dogs, plays and cuddles, chit chat with the volunteers , coordinating tasks, getting dogs ready for their daily walks, organizing shopping for needed supplies. Help with preparing food and feeding our fury sanctuary friends. 5.30 to 9.30 pm office time, book keeping, fundraising, social media, answering emails, messages etc... dinner in between. Playing with and cuddle my own 6 at home and I usually go to bed around 11 pm
What is the biggest achievement until now, inside your project?
Over 4000 registered spay/neuters since 2017 and countless successful adoptions of our rescues internationally.
Who are the people behind your project and what you can tell about them?
That’s me Martina as the founder and a handful of wonderful, like minded and very dedicated animal loving humans, volunteering and fighting for animal rights and welfare deep from heart, dedicating our lives for the wellbeing of man’s best friends not that fortunate to live loved, safe and cared for.
What are you going to do, if you receive 10.000 Dollars for your project?
Badly needed sanctuary maintenance, second hand scooters for feeding runs, another mass spay project
